7:30 PM on the second Monday of each month. (except April and December)
Our speaker for Monday February 13, 2012 is Manfred Behr. His topic is photographing orchids . There will be hands on instruction. Manfred is internationally reknowned and awarded design artist, author, and botanical photographer . His works have been on exhibit at the Edison Museum and Alliance for the Arts. There will be a beginners session at 7:00 PM, and there will be a plant raffle.
Our speaker for March will be Charles Chapman of Chapman Orchids in Apopka, Fl. His topic is Culture of Warmth Tolerant Cymbidiums.
What we do in our regular meetings:
Usually an informal beginners session covering all questions about Orchid Culture begins at 7:00 PM.
The regular business portion of the meeting which begins at 7:30 P.M. is usually brief.
The main feature of the meeting is the speaker who speaks on a topic related to some aspect of interest to Orchid
lovers ( except the December meeting which is our Holiday Luncheon, and the October meeting which our Auction).
Recent topics have included orchid conservation, orchid culture, and viewing specific orchid species in their
natural habitat. Recently, we have been very successful in obtaining exceptionally interesting speakers,
and arrangements have been made on into the coming year.
An opportunity to view unusual species as well as well grown hybrids is provided by the show table.
Members display their plants to share their beauty with the other members who in turn vote on their favorites.
Ribbons are awarded to the winners, who are asked to comment the cultural requirements of their plants.
There is a raffle of orchid plants obtained from the speaker, a local grower, or sometimes through
a special acquisition, with proceeds going to support the activities of the society.
And, of course there are refreshments provided by the members.
